Democracy SENTRY is an issue advocacy organization established to serve as the central coordinating body between senior congressional leadership, the White House, and leading pro-democracy organizations to advance the passage of the Freedom to Vote Act (FTVA; S. 1/H.R. 11) and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (JLVRAA; H.R. 14).
There are two main components to SENTRY’s work:

Conveining regular “Boiler Room” meetings to coordinate senior members of congressional leadership, the White House and the top pro-democracy advocacy organizations in support of FTVA/JLVRAA.

Executing comprehensive advocacy campaigns in strategic, target states to keep FTVA/JLVRAA at the top of the list of priorities for congressional incumbents, candidates, and voters.
AN URGENT NEED
America’s democracy is facing unprecedented threats - they are intensifying:
Since 2020, the pace of voter suppression efforts has accelerated, with hundreds of restrictive voting and election interference bills introduced in state legislatures across the country. Dozens have passed already.
Sixty percent of Americans had an election denier on their ballot in November 2022. Many gearing up to run again in 2024, led by their presumptive presidential nominee.
An estimated one-third of all election officials and poll workers have quit since the 2020 election due to threats and fears for their safety.
Overwhelming amounts of misinformation have led to a disturbingly high share of Americans losing faith in our electoral process. One in 5 believe political violence is sometimes justified.

Winning major federal policy requires a centralized entity to coordinate and align outside groups with congressional and White House leadership
A key lesson for veterans of the last fight for FTVA
including the founders of SENTRY – is that leading pro-democracy organizations fighting against extreme efforts to restrict voting rights and subvert elections need a central hub to coordinate and align with each other and senior congressional and White House leadership to continue to build and strengthen support for changing the rules of the Senate to enact FTVA and other democracy reforms.
Without a dedicated entity
to match massive, special interest influence campaigns, Americans’ demand for pro-democracy legislation will lose momentum in Washington.
We need to ensure that the public’s calls for action continue,
and are heard and accounted for during the 2024 cycle. SENTRY is able to elevate those calls for action directly to congressional leadership and the White House.
The Solution
SENTRY is continuing the momentum built over the last Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act, along with the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to set federal standards to protect voting rights, prevent election subversion, and advance greater representation.
